Spring fever kicked in as soon as the Michigan baseball team took the field at the Wilpon Complex of the Ray Fisher Stadium today in its home opener.

The Wolverines defeated Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne in a 10-2 contest.
Michigan fielded the diamond first and it was senior pitcher Alan Oaks who went to the mound. Oaks ended the first inning one, two, three and that was basically how the entire afternoon went.
Wolverine senior first basemen Mike Dufek was on second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch and it was redshirt senior Nick Urban who came up at bat next. Urban hit a grounder to center field and doubled while Dufek advanced home to tally Michigan’s first points.
Sophomore third baseman John Lorenz singled to center field and Urban came in for another Michigan score. At that point, the Mastodons were still holding on to the game.
But then, sophomore designated hitter Coley Crank stepped to the plate. Senior catcher Chris Berset was on second base and Crank cranked one out of the park to score another two all in the bottom of the third inning.
IPFW was just never capable of gaining enough composure to compete with the Wolverines. The two teams meet again on Saturday for game 1:05 p.m.
