The Michigan baseball team sat atop the Big Ten standings before going into its three-game series against Minnesota this weekend.

After losing their first two games, the Wolverines slipped to fourth place in the conference and the Gophers moved to first. But after Michigan’s 2-1 win on Sunday at Mall of America Field in Minneapolis, the two teams are now tied for second place.
Minnesota (10-8 Big Ten, 22-27 overall) scored first in the contest when designated hitter Trip Schultz doubled to right center.
Michigan (10-8, 29-17) then responded in the top of the fourth inning when third baseman John Lorenz drove in designated hitter Coley Crank with a double. Lorenz was 2-3 in Sunday’s game with one RBI.
The Wolverines posted one more tally in the top of the eighth stanza when junior leftfielder Ryan LaMarre cranked a home run to kick off the inning.
Michigan will now face Michigan State in a home-and-home series this upcoming week, starting on Tuesday in East Lansing.
