Ann Arbor Police Department Lt. Angella Abrams confirmed that an armed robbery at the jewelry store took place on the 200 block of S. Main St. around 2:30 this afternoon.
Abrams said the store owners chased the suspects out of the store when people nearby notified police of the robbery, allowing officers to arrest four of the suspects upon arrival.
Abrams said there were no injuries in the robbery, and no property was damaged at the jewelry store.
The University’s E-Alert messaging system was sent out to the community shortly after AAPD received calls, stating that three suspects fled from police in the area of Main St. and Madison, and that they may be armed. The alert called for people to remain inside for their safety.
At about 4 p.m., another E-Alert was sent out, giving the all clear.
University Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Diane Brown said that the all clear was released due to the fact that police had begun to clear the area.
“Police stepped down from the area, both ours and the city’s,” Brown said. “Our deputy chief felt it was time to send out an update, and Ann Arbor police didn’t feel there was any immediate danger to people in the area.”
Abrams said police were wrapping up interviewing suspects and processing the store at about five o’clock this evening.
