The gang stays fresh in sixth season of 'Always Sunny'

The no-holds-barred FX hit comedy series “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” is back for its sixth season, and it should come as no surprise that the gang is ready to delve into more dirty, over-the-top schemes.

In the season premiere, “Mac Fights Gay Marriage,” Mac (Rob McElhenney) tries to convince a rather stunning transsexual he had slept with (Brittany Daniel, “White Chicks”) that her marriage is an abomination, while really Mac just wants her for himself. Meanwhile, Charlie (Charlie Day) and Frank (Danny DeVito) pretend to be gay so they can get “married” and share benefits.

Clearly, the gang hasn't lost any of its spunk when it comes to getting involved in edgy issues. While the first episode of the season wouldn't rank at the top of any fan’s all time favorites, viewers are still in for the same comedic depravity that they've come to expect from the show. The writers have taken a topic relevant to current events and given it an absurd new twist, all in the service of the morals of their twisted characters. Still, one of the marks of the gang is that they oftentimes end up betraying one another to further their own goals, and it would have been nice to see that recurring theme in the season opener.

Even if some elements of the premiere seem not quite up to previous seasons, it's important to remember that each episode represents a fresh start for the gang to try and outdo or sabotage each other. “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” has never let us down, and there is no reason to believe it will now.
