According to preliminary numbers, the race for the two seats open on the University’s Board of Regents currently shows an advantage for the two incumbent regents, both of whom are Republicans.

The two incumbents, Regent Andrea Fischer-Newman (R–Ann Arbor) and Regent Andrew Richner (R–Grosse Pointe Park), currently lead their Democratic opponents Paul Brown and Greg Stephens.
As of midnight — when 275,000 votes from 31 counties in the state had been reported — Newman had garnered about 29 percent of the vote, while Richner had taken about 28 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, as of the same time, Brown had earned about 18 percent of the vote and Stephens had received about 16 percent of the vote.
The remaining votes were split fairly evenly among the Green Party, U.S. Taxpayers Party and Libertarian Party candidates for University regent, with each earning between one to two percent of the total vote.
