1. Jeffrey Quijano, Defender (Men’s Soccer)
After being benched and missing significant time during the regular season, the senior Quijano has been a mainstay on defense throughout the postseason for the College Cup-bound Wolverines. That alone earned him a spot in the rankings last week. But this time around, his defensive contributions don’t hold a candle to his other accomplishments. He produced a team music video to Drake’s song “Over” that has already garnered more than 6,000 views since Wednesday. And down 1-0 to No. 3 Maryland in the NCAA quarterfinals in College Park, Md., he jumpstarted No. 18 Michigan with his first goal since Oct. 14, 2009 just four minutes into the second half. He even had the audacity to keep the ball instead of dishing it to freshman forward Soony Saad — the nation’s second-leading goal scorer.

2. Fabio Pereira, Midfielder (Men’s Soccer)
Soony Saad, sophomore midfielder Hamoody Saad and senior forward Justin Meram had combined for 40 goals entering Saturday’s contest against the Terrapins; the freshman Pereira had never recorded a goal. Well, who provided the Wolverines the most important score of the season more than three minutes into the second overtime to send them to the NCAA semifinals? Go figure, it was Pereira. There’s no doubt Soony, Hamoody and Meram have carried Michigan into the national spotlight, but Pereira’s contribution should hardly come as a surprise. He’s not the first unheralded player to lift the team to the next round — sophomore Latif Alashe (one previous career goal) provided the overtime game winner in the NCAA second round. And as a whole, the constant “Three Amigos” talk has at times clouded the fact that players like Pereira and Alashe have been integral parts of a complete team effort.

3. Lexi Zimmerman, Setter (Volleyball)
Zimmerman is the only Michigan athlete to have made the rankings in every week, but this week will surely mark the last time. The senior competed in her last match as a Wolverine on Thursday, a three-set loss to No. 11 Washington in the NCAA first round. She registered 30 assists and eight digs, but her spot in the rankings this week is more a tribute to her entire career. Dubbed by Michigan coach Mark Rosen as the best player he’s ever coached, Zimmerman has built one of the most impressive resumes of any Michigan athlete in recent memory. She was named Michigan Female Athlete of the Year last season and she very well might earn the honor again this season.

4. Darius Morris, Point Guard (Men’s Basketball)
The sophomore point guard Morris continues to excel in all aspects of the game for Michigan. He has scored in double-figures in six of Michigan’s eight contests and is averaging 7.5 assists and four rebounds on the season. Outside of Morris, though, no other Wolverine has stepped up consistently on the offensive end. Four other players have scored 18 points or more on at least one occasion. Yet, only he has emerged as a potential primary or secondary scoring threat for when the Big Ten season starts in three weeks.

5. Justin Meram, Forward (Men’s Soccer)
Even though Michigan coach Steve Burns implemented a more conservative strategy that forced Meram to drop back more against Maryland, the senior forward still managed to make an impact on the offensive end. He scored the Wolverines’ second goal off a pass from Quijano to put the team up 2-1 in the second half. Michigan would eventually relinquish that lead, but it was just another crucial postseason goal for Meram. Seven of his 16 tallies have come in either the Big Ten Tournament or the NCAA Tournament.

6. Bryan Hogan, Goaltender (Ice Hockey)
The senior Hogan allowed just one goal on 25 shots in the 2-1 victory on Saturday against Ohio State and was rock solid in the last half of the third period. But even with that performance, let the debate begin: Which goalie should start the Big Chill at the Big House on Saturday against Michigan State? At this point, it’s anyone’s guess. Both Hogan and senior Shawn Hunwick played well in the series against the Buckeyes — even if Michigan reverted back to its November ways by losing Hunwick’s Friday start and winning Hogan’s Saturday start.
