Elaine Morton's cartoon was wildly misinformed, completely offensive and inflammatory (Nature Calls, 01/27/2009). It implied that an embryonic stem cell would have become "a child," which is false. Embryonic stem cell research is conducted on embryos that otherwise would have been discarded and would never become a living human. Putting something in cartoon form is no excuse for blatant mistruths that only polarize the debate and spread lies even further. I ask that The Michigan Daily be more vigilant in policing their editorial pages, no matter how these opinions are represented.
