The two-and-a-half hours of hockey played at Yost Ice Arena Friday night can be summed up in a six-word cliché.

Making the most of your chances.
Bowling Green executed at just the right moments, scoring on their first, 12 th, and 13 th shots, coasting to a 3-0 victory at Yost Ice Arena.
After 51 minutes of play, the Michigan hockey team had nearly double the shots on visiting Bowling Green. The Wolverines were riding the momentum of a six-game winning streak against a team in the bottom half of the CCHA standings.
And after 51 minutes of play, Michigan was down goals and was effectively taken out of the contest.
The Wolverines’ offense, which had tallied four-plus goals in seven of its last eight games, was unusually quiet during the first two periods. Michigan struggled to maintain possession during five-on-five play, had several shots blocked and a slew of crossing passes knocked away.
When a Wolverine had a scoring chance in front of the net, a Falcon defender was there to tie him up. The Falcons played excellent positional hockey on the defensive and bothered Michigan’s offense throughout the night.
Bowling Green goaltender Jimmy Spratt was there to tie up all the loose ends, stopping all __ Wolverine shots and earning an unlikely shutout.
Bowling Green forward Tommy Dee opened the scoring nine minutes into the contest, retrieving a loose puck in the slot and firing a wrister past sophomore goaltender Bryan Hogan for the 1-0 lead.
The Falcons nearly added another mark with 9:32 remaining, when forward Dan Sexton stole the puck from sophomore winger Aaron Palushaj at the blue line and streaked in alone on a breakaway. But Hogan held his ground and stopped the shot blocker-side.
Dee’s tally was the lone highlight in an opening period that lasted just 30 minutes in real time. The teams combined for just seven shots on goal, as both defenses did a superb job getting in the passing lanes and disrupting the opposing offense’s timing.
Sexton would answer back with 11 minutes remaining. The sophomore winger gained possession behind the net and quickly cut into the slot, firing a backhander past Hogan for the 2-0 lead.
The Wolverines caught another bad break 4:32 into the third period, when sophomore defenseman Scooter Vaughan received a five-minute major for checking from behind. Vaughan was also given a game misconduct on the play and was ejected from the game.
Bowling Green defenseman Nick Bailen put the exclamation point on the contest with 5:49 remaining, sniping a gorgeous wrist shot through Hogan’s five-hole for the unassisted, shorthanded goal and subduing the home crowd.
Senior Travis Turnbull, sophomore Carl Hagelin and freshmen Brandon Burlon and David Wohlberg each had golden opportunities in the final frame in front of the net. But shots either went wide or into Spratt’s chest.
