On Friday, the freshman duo of Justin Rossi and Barrett Franks earned the ‘A’ flight doubles title by winning four straight matches. They defeated teams from Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern to reach the final, where they defeated Wisconsin’s Petr Satral and Billy Bertha, 8-6.
The doubles action started and ended on Friday, with each team playing pro-set matches in which the first team to eight games wins.
After capturing the title, Rossi and Franks moved to 6-2 on the year as a tandem.
Michigan's other participating doubles team, sophomore Chris Cha and freshman Shaun Bernstein, went 2-2 in the tournament.
Singles play started on Saturday, and Rossi and Cha are currently the lone Wolverines alive in the main draw. They each won their two matches in straight sets and will play in the Round of 16 on Monday.
Three of the Wolverines’ freshmen — Franks, Bernstein and Alex Buzzi — lost their opening matches but are still alive in the singles back-draw.
